GET 'READ'Y FOR THE SUMMER

Below are a list of books that are appropriate for your reading over the summer. The selections marked * are novels we have in the school and that you may at some date be required to read for class. The other novels are simply good books with a lot of literary merit.Enjoy the summer and read a good book. Ms. Trueman

Following is a 'novel' way to spend your summer
The books with * after the title are novels we have in the schoolLORD OF THE FLIES * (my 1st choice - but is more of a boy's novel) This novel is by William Golding and is an allegorical tale of a bunch of boys stranded on an island without any adult supervision. (Sounds good eh?) The allegory comes into play when the boys attempt to form some kind of society with leaders and followers...you get the picture.A SEPARATE PEACE * I don't know a thing about this novel - but give it a try. Email me and let me know what you think.THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN by Mark Twain This my one of my favorite novels. If you liked To Kill A Mockingbird you will probably like this one - though the plot is different for TKAM.FRANKENSTEIN by Mary ShelleyContrary to some of the movies out there, this novel is not a horror story nor is Frankenstein the monster. Hollywood - Go figure.WATERSHIP DOWN * by ________ Another book I have not read but apparently a good allegorical novel and if you like rabbits ... well this is your kind of story.WHO HAS SEEN THE WIND * by W.O. Mitchell A Canadian author. Also look for titles by authors like: Margaret Atwood Timothy Findley William Shakespeare (you can't go wrong with this guy) Carl Sandburg Mark Twain Also drop down to the town library, the librarians are a wealth of information and can put you on to some really good pieces of literature.
